Denmark Open 2026: Malaysia Five Through to R16
Malaysia booked five places in the Round of 16 at the Victor Denmark Open on Wednesday, with a comeback from Aaron Tai and Yap Roy King the standout result of a mixed Round of 32 at the HSBC BWF World Tour Super 750 event.
The day's biggest turnaround came in men's doubles. Tai and Yap lost the opening game 13-21 to Korea's Kang Min Hyuk and Lee Jong Min, then reset to take the next two 21-18, 21-19 and complete a 2-1 win.
Goh Soon Huat and Shevon Lai were in control against the American duo of Chen Zhi Yi and Francesca Corbett, winning 21-15, 21-13 in straight games.
In an all-Malaysian mixed doubles tie, Chen Tang Jie and Chan Wen Tse beat Jimmy Wong and Cheng Su Yin 21-19, 21-16, guaranteeing Malaysia a place in the next round from that match.
Sixth seeds Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin dominated the second all-Malaysian clash of the day, beating Azriyn Ayub and Tan Wee Kiong 21-14, 21-11.
Chia Wei Jie and Teo Ee Yi were just as efficient, seeing off Chinese Taipei's Chen Zhi Ray and Lin Yu Chieh 21-16, 21-15.
It was a harder day for two Malaysian entries against foreign opposition.
Wong Ling Ching, the only women's singles player on the card, took the first game 21-19 against Japan's Riko Gunji but could not hold on. Gunji levelled with a 21-11 second game and edged the decider 21-19 to win 2-1.
In men's doubles, Man Wei Chong and Tee Kai Wun lost 16-21, 20-22 to Denmark's Christian Faust Kjær and Rasmus Kjær. The Malaysians pushed the second game to the wire but could not force a decider.
