Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has expressed his admiration for the overwhelming support shown by Red Devils fans in Malaysia, ahead of their highly anticipated clash against the ASEAN All-Stars in the Maybank Challenge Cup 2025.
Currently in Kuala Lumpur for the exhibition match set for Wednesday, 28 May, Amorim was clearly moved by the passion and presence of United supporters, drawing comparisons to the atmosphere at their iconic home ground, Old Trafford.
“We play at Old Trafford every week and you can feel the energy of the fans there. Here in Malaysia, it’s exactly the same,” said the Portuguese tactician during a press conference on Tuesday.
Amorim acknowledged that Manchester United’s global stature often brings them closer to fans around the world, but even he was struck by the intensity of support during their visit to Southeast Asia.
“It’s the same feeling, no matter which region we visit. The passion for this club is absolutely incredible,” added Amorim, who took over the reins at United earlier this season.
Manchester United will face off against the ASEAN All-Stars, a selection of the region’s top footballers, in what promises to be a thrilling showcase of international club versus regional talent.
The match is part of United’s pre-season global tour and serves as a celebration of footballing ties between Europe and Southeast Asia — a region that has long boasted one of the club’s largest and most loyal fan bases.
