Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Malaysia’s Finance Minister and Prime Minister, revealed new details regarding the RM15 million allocation for the national football team during the presentation of Budget 2025 in the Dewan Rakyat.
Anwar announced that the funds will be allocated not only to the senior national football team, Harimau Malaya, but also to the U-18 and U-13 squads in collaboration with the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM). The allocation aims to secure top-tier coaches, enhance training sessions, and ensure that players receive appropriate rewards.
He emphasized that the funds are meant to elevate the performance of Malaysia’s football teams, from grassroots to the senior level. In response to this government support, Anwar urged FAM to develop a comprehensive plan and establish a Key Performance Indicator (KPI) system to guarantee measurable improvements in the national team’s performance.
This announcement follows earlier remarks by Minister of Youth and Sports, YB Hannah Yeoh, who highlighted that the RM15 million would strengthen both the senior and U-23 squads.
