Kuching City passes to quarter-final round after beating Kuala Lumpur City scoring 3-2 in the Piala FA Malaysia 2024/25 round of 16 at KLFA Stadium, Cheras.
In the action involved, KL City FC threatened through Paulo Josue’s attempt that was slightly missed in the fourth minute, followed by Declan Lambert’s shot that was easily caught by Shahril Sa’ari four minutes later.
Declan’s movement through the left wing of KL City FC could not be stopped by the KCFC defense and his pass was finished by Haqimi Azim Rosli for the opening goal in the 13th minute.
However, KCFC opened the game again after Filemon Anyi’s deflected effort beat Azri Ghani for the equalizer in the 25th minute.
KL City FC was relieved when Paulo Josue’s second goal in the 35th minute was confirmed by VAR and the score remained 2-1 until the end of the first period.
Continuing the second half, KCFC pushed harder to find the equalizer and their hard work succeeded after Pedro Henrique’s cross was headed in by Nur Shamie Iszuan Amin in the 67th minute.
Gallifuoco managed to score a goal for KL City with a minute left in the match but the goal was not confirmed by VAR and the match was dragged into extra time.
KL City FC had a chance to score the winning goal at the beginning of extra time in the second half after S Sharvin was brought down in the penalty box, but the referee, Tuan Mohd Yassin Tuan Mohd Hanafiah who examined the monitor did not award a penalty to the hosts.
When the match seemed to have to be decided by a penalty kick, Zahrul Nizam scored the winning goal for the visitors with three minutes remaining.
