Johor Darul Ta’Zim passes to the quarter-final after beating Kelantan Darul Naim, scoring 4-o in the Piala FA Malaysia 2024/25 at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, Iskandar Puteri.
The hosts missed an opportunity to open the scoring curtain in the 13th minute after Fernando Forestieri’s passing ball opened up space for Juan Muniz to take a curling kick, but the ball just went over the goal post.
With one minute left in the first half, JDT finally managed to open the scoring through a goal contributed by Forestieri.
Continuing the second half, JDT seemed to increase the intensity of the game and almost added a goal in the 51st minute, but Forestieri’s attempt was saved by Mohd Muhaimin.
The incident of Umeir Aznan’s foul against Forestieri in the 58th minute in the penalty box saw the referee, Mohamad Kamil Zakaria Ismail check the video assistant referee (VAR) and as a result JDT were awarded a penalty kick.
A penalty kick was taken and Muniz was successfully pushed out by Mohd Muhaimin, but substitute Romel Morales who was in the best position followed up to score the second goal for JDT.
JDT continued to take a comfortable lead in the 81st minute after Muniz’s ball passed directly to the substitute, Francisco Geraldes, who tricked two opposing defenders before shooting straight into the left corner of the goal.
VAR again played a role after spotting Nasrol Amri Kamarul Azhar’s foul on Arif Aiman in the final minutes of the game which saw JDT awarded a penalty kick and the 22-year-old didn’t miss the opportunity to secure a 4-0 win in JDT’s favour.
