Johor Darul Ta’Zim pass to semi-final after beating Penang FC with a score of 5-0 in the Piala FA Malaysia 2023 at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, Iskandar Puteri.
JDT’s series of attacks almost broke the net in the 18th minute after Juan Muniz’s swift ball from outside the penalty box was pushed over by goal keeper Azraf Arif Mohd Sukri but Fernando Forestieri’s follow-up failed to rip the JDT’s net.
After often putting pressure on the visiting fortress, finally the goal that the hosts were looking for came in the 32nd minute stemming from Corbin Ong’s cross kick which was headed by Forestieri but hit the goal bar and Diogo who put pressure on caused Ousmane Fane to kick the ball into his own goal.
The Harimau Selatan squad seemed to have eliminated the remaining struggles of the squad controlled by Manzoor Azwira And Wahid after scoring the second goal in the 38th minute, stemming from Muniz’s cross kick, which saw Lowry head the ball right at captain Jordi Amat’s speed and beat Azraf Arif.
Indeed, it was not a fortune for Forestieri to make a name for himself as a goal scorer when action lasted a minute to end the first half after a heavy ball outside the penalty box stemmed from Diogo’s pass just stopping at the goal bar.
Continuing the second half, JDT was awarded a penalty kick in the 47th minute after the match referee, Ahmad Zuhadi Dzulkifli found Muniz’s ball hit the hands of the Penang FC defense.
Arif Aiman Hanapi, who took a penalty kick, easily darted back and forth to the right of the goal in the 49th minute, beating Azraf Arif to put the South Tigers squad at ease with a 3-0 net.
JDT clearly dominated the game and immediately gave no face to Penang FC when they added a fourth goal in the 58th minute after Muniz, who had seized the ball from the opponent’s feet, acted to feed the ball back for Corbin to slow down the ball, killing Azraf Arif.
Entering the last minute of the match stemmed from a bait ball, Muniz saw substitute Syafiq Ahmad take a slanted shot right to the left to complete a 5-0 style victory over Penang FC.
