Paulo Josue, the captain of Kuala Lumpur City, is confident that his team will secure three points in their opening match against Kaya FC in the Shopee Cup 2024/25 Group Stage, Group B.
Kuala Lumpur City, a prominent name in Asian football as the runner-up of the AFC Cup 2022 , is competing in this tournament as the runner-up of the Piala FA Malaysia 2023.
In a press conference, Paulo expressed optimism that the tournament would offer an opportunity to regain their winning momentum after a challenging in the Liga Super Malaysia campaign. And he emphasized the importance of the upcoming match at Cheras Stadium and encouraged fans to show their support.
“For me and the players, we know that the competition in the league is quite tough and the FA Cup is already out, so we have to compete in this tournament.” Paulo said.
“This tournament is our chance to highlight our strengths especially when we play at the Cheras Stadium tomorrow. We hope to win tomorrow.”
“Tomorrow’s game is a chance for us to get back into our rhythm after a couple of defeats. We have to go down tomorrow and give our best and try to beat them.”
“I hope all the fans will be there.”
Meanwhile, Head coach Miroslav Kuljanac echoed Paulo’s sentiments, stating that while the team is not setting specific targets for the tournament, their immediate focus is on securing a victory in the opening match to regain confidence after recent defeats.
“Not setting targets. We want to focus on getting three points first. It’s better to start with a win because that’s our style.” Miroslav said.
“After a few defeats, of course we want a win.”
Shopee Cup 2024/25 Group Stage, Group B match between Kuala Lumpur CIty and Kaya FC will kick off on August 22, 2024, at 9:00 pm at KLFA Stadium, Cheras.
