Malaysia national team is set to face the New Zealand national team on October 14, 2024, at North Harbour Stadium, Auckland. The match marks a significant challenge for the Malayan Tigers as they prepare to test their mettle against one of Oceania’s strongest teams.
Harimau Malaya arrived in New Zealand last Monday and immediately began their training sessions. In preparation for the friendly against New Zealand, the team played a closed-door International Friendly (Tier 2) match against Auckland FC, one of New Zealand’s rising football clubs, at Go Media Stadium.
The game ended in a 90-minute draw 1-1, providing valuable match experience for the Malaysian squad.
Head coach Pau Marti expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance, praising their display against Auckland FC.
“We had a solid game, and I am pleased with how the players executed our plans. Auckland FC is a strong side that has invested considerable time and effort into building a competitive team, and it showed,” said Marti.
The upcoming fixture against New Zealand will be an important test for Malaysia as they continue to build momentum ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
