Osmar Loss Vieira, Buriram United’s head coach, expressed confidence in his team’s ability to overcome Johor Darul Ta’Zim in a high-stakes encounter at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium.
Addressing the media, Osmar highlighted the significance of the game, stating:
“This is the biggest competition in Asia, and tomorrow’s game is crucial. Both Buriram United and Johor Darul Ta’zim want to advance to the next stage, and we have prepared well. We’ll do our best to secure three points.”
While Buriram started the group stage strongly with seven points from their first three matches, their recent form has been shaky. Losses to Yokohama F. Marinos and Kawasaki Frontale have left the Thai champions needing a decisive win to keep their qualification hopes alive.
The Thunder Castle’s campaign has been marred by disciplinary setbacks and missed opportunities. Reflecting on their recent struggles, Osmar said:
“In Japan, we lost a player to a red card early on, which changed the dynamics. Against Kawasaki, conceding the first goal was the turning point. For tomorrow, we must focus and be ready. JDT is strong at home, but we’re confident in our preparation.”
Buriram will be without Sasalak Haiprakhon, who is suspended, a decision Osmar described as harsh but unavoidable under tournament rules.
When asked about JDT’s dominance at home, where they’ve won two group matches without conceding, Osmar remained unfazed.
“Football is unpredictable. Past statistics don’t guarantee future results. We’ve analyzed JDT as a team rather than focusing on individual players. They have many talented players, but we know how to adapt and solve problems during the game.”
Adding weight to Buriram’s resolve is Dion Cools, who brings unique insight as a Malaysian national team player familiar with JDT’s strengths. His leadership will be critical as Buriram aims to neutralize JDT’s potent attacking threats and maintain composure in a hostile atmosphere.
The clash between Buriram United and JDT not only serves as a battle between two ASEAN football powerhouses but also as a pivotal moment in the group’s standings. Both teams are tied on seven points, and a win could secure passage to the knockout stages.
