Defending champions Buriram United are gearing up for their opening match of the Shopee Cup 2025/26 Group A, as they host Selangor FC at Buriram Stadium on Wednesday evening.
At the pre-match press conference, head coach Osmar Loss Vieira stressed the importance of starting strong in front of home fans, while acknowledging the challenges of molding a refreshed squad.
“It’s an honor to coach Buriram United again in international competition,” Osmar said. “We had a good pre-season, but now that the season is starting, there are still many things to improve. Playing at home tomorrow, our only goal is to collect three points for our supporters. I hope the stadium will be full to push us forward.”
The Thunder Castle have made sweeping changes to their foreign lineup, but Osmar believes the adjustments are part of a long-term plan to enhance the team’s quality and tactical flexibility.
“From the outside, the changes might seem drastic, but for us, it’s about making the team better and adding more options,” the Brazilian explained. “It’s not easy to manage, but we’re working to find the best starting eleven. This is just the beginning of the season, and the more we play together, the stronger our understanding and results will be.”
Osmar also noted the threat posed by Selangor FC, who arrive with a disciplined setup and familiar faces, including former Buriram striker Chrigor Moraes.
“Selangor are similar to us because they’re also at the start of their season, with only three official games played,” Osmar said. “They defend well with five at the back and four in midfield, which makes them difficult to break down. We must control the ball, avoid careless mistakes, and be alert to their counterattacks.”
