Malaysia’s rising star Hakim Danish saw his dream of finishing runner-up in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup 2025 shattered after a crash in the season finale at the Misano World Circuit on Sunday.
The 18-year-old Terengganu-born rider, who started from sixth on the grid, was in the leading pack before losing control at Turn 2 with eight laps remaining. The crash forced him out of contention and ultimately ended his third RBRC season in third place overall with 171 points.
Hakim was narrowly edged out of second by Indonesia’s Veda Pratama, who finished with 181 points. Spain’s Brian Uriarte dominated the season to clinch the overall title with 236 points.
Despite the disappointment, Hakim Danish made history as the first-ever Malaysian rider to finish inside the top three, cementing his reputation as one of Asia’s brightest young motorcycle racing prospects.
Hakim’s steady rise has been impressive – from finishing 12th in his debut season in 2023, to sixth place in 2024, and now breaking into the championship’s elite podium in just his third year.
The season-ending race was won by Spain’s David Gonzalez, who edged compatriot Uriarte by just 0.052 seconds, while Argentina’s Marco Morelli secured third place.
