Malaysian teenage racing sensation Hakim Danish Ramli bounced back in stunning fashion to finish runner-up in Race 2 of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup (RBMRC) Round 4 at the iconic Mugello Circuit, Italy, earlier today.
The 17-year-old, starting from fifth on the grid, narrowly missed out on victory by just 0.011 seconds, finishing right behind Indonesian rider Veda Ega Pratama in a nail-biting finish that kept fans on the edge of their seats.
Hakim clocked 26 minutes 44.358 seconds, delivering a clinical performance after a tough Race 1 on Saturday, where he finished a disappointing 13th due to a strategic miscalculation.
“I’m really happy to be back on the podium,” said Hakim. “I used the wrong strategy yesterday, but today was much better. The long straight made things tricky, but I managed the race well. Now, I want to stay consistent for the upcoming rounds.”
The podium finish marks Hakim’s sixth time securing second place in the Rookies Cup series. He recently broke that streak by clinching his first win of the season in Race 2 of Round 3 at Aragon earlier this month.
With this result, Hakim solidifies his position as the overall championship leader with 148 points after eight races — 32 points clear of his closest rival, Brian Uriarte from Spain.
Meanwhile, Veda Ega Pratama’s double win in Mugello sees him leap into third overall with 92 points, followed by Spaniards Benat Fernandez (85 points) and David Gonzalez (80 points).
The Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup serves as one of the premier talent development platforms in world motorcycle racing, feeding riders into Moto3, Moto2, and eventually the MotoGP World Championship.
