Johor Darul Ta’Zim Futsal made history emerged champions first time in this tournament after beating Selangor FC scoring 3-2 in the Malaysia Futsal Cup 2024 Final at Axiata Arena, Kuala Lumpur.
Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) Futsal made history by winning their first-ever Malaysia Futsal Cup title after a thrilling 3-2 victory against Selangor FC in the 2024 final at Axiata Arena, Kuala Lumpur. This victory marks a monumental achievement for the Southern Tigers, who were eager to make amends after falling short in the 2023 final.
The final was set up as a showdown between two futsal powerhouses, with JDT’s lineup led by goalkeeper Azrul Hadee, while Selangor pinned their hopes on the dynamic duo of Syahir Iqbal and Gabriel Rossa.
JDT wasted no time, breaking the deadlock as early as the 4th minute. Brazilian star Bruno Taffy struck a powerful shot that beat Selangor’s goalkeeper Syawal Sabaruddin, putting JDT ahead 1-0. The early goal rattled Selangor, but the Red Giants quickly regrouped and launched a series of attacks.
Selangor’s efforts to level the score were spearheaded by Khairul Effendy and Wellinton Pereira, but JDT’s defense remained solid, repelling every attempt. However, Selangor’s persistence paid off in the 17th minute when young talent Syahir Iqbal Khan slotted home the equalizer, bringing the score to 1-1 and reigniting the contest.
The second half saw JDT regain the lead in the 27th minute, much to the delight of their fans, as Firdaus Ambiah calmly finished a well-executed move to make it 2-1. JDT capitalized on their momentum just six minutes later when Azwann Ismail doubled their advantage with a quick counter-attack, making it 3-1 and putting the Southern Tigers in a commanding position.
Selangor, however, refused to back down. With just five minutes remaining, Aidil Sharin reignited hope for the Red Giants by scoring a left-footed goal in the 35th minute to close the gap to 3-2. Despite their best efforts to find an equalizer in the dying minutes, Selangor could not break through JDT’s resilient defense.
The match ended 3-2 in favor of Johor Darul Ta’zim, crowning them champions of the Malaysia Futsal Cup 2024.
