Football Association of Malaysia (FAM), today announced that the 43rd Edition of Pestabola Merdeka 2024 will officially be held during the upcoming FIFA international match calendar between 2-10 September 2024 at Bukit Jalil National Stadium, Kuala Lumpur.
Malaysia as host is currently ranked 135th in the world, three other teams that have confirmed participation in this edition of the competition are the defending champions, Tajikistan who are currently ranked 102nd in the world, Lebanon (117), and the Philippines (147).
These four teams will be drawn to determine their respective opponents in the first match which is Semi-Final 1 and 2, followed by the second match which is the Final which finds the winner of Semi-Final 1 and 2 and the Determination of Third Place between the two teams who lost in Semi-Final 1 and 2.
This is the first time Pestabola Merdeka has been successfully organized consecutively after 16 years, which was the last time it was held consecutively in 2006, 2007 and 2008, before it was held in 2013 and returned after 10 years of organization in the last year’s edition, 2023.
FAM hopes that Harimau Malaya supporters will be able to enliven the Pestabola Merdeka 2024 competition by coming to the National Stadium as the 43rd edition takes place during the National Month, which is after the Merdeka Day on 31 August and ahead of Malaysia Day on 16 September.
The date of the Pestabola Merdeka 2024 43rd Edition will be announced later to determine which teams will face each other in the Semi-Finals, in addition to the dates for Match Day 1 for the Semi-Finals and Match Day 2 for the Final and Third Place Determination will also be set later.
