Malaysian national football team has officially announced the arrival of four new heritage players, headlined by red-hot America de Cali striker Rodrigo Holgado, in a significant boost ahead of the upcoming AFC Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers.

Joining Holgado in this exciting new wave of talent are Imanol Machuca, Jon Irazabal, and Joao Figueiredo—all of whom have been formally unveiled as part of the Harimau Malaya senior squad.

According to an official statement by Malaysia’s National Team, all four players have completed their first training sessions with the squad.

This major development is part of the national team’s aggressive plan to deepen its talent pool with players of Malaysian heritage currently thriving abroad.

Rodrigo Holgado: “I Fell in Love with Malaysia”

Top signing Rodrigo Holgado, currently starring in Colombia’s top division with America de Cali, expressed heartfelt gratitude and passion for his new international challenge.

“Since arriving here, I’ve fallen in love with the atmosphere and this country.

I now understand the true meaning of wearing the Harimau Malaya jersey, and I’m ready to give everything for this nation.”

Imanol Machuca: “It’s an Honour to Represent Malaysia”

The Argentinian-born winger, Imanol Machuca, spoke about the pride he feels in donning the Malaysian colours.

“Since the moment I arrived at the national training camp, Malaysia has treated me incredibly well.

It’s something very special to represent Harimau Malaya, and I will give my all for this honour.”

Jon Irazabal: “This is Where My National Duty Lies”

Jon Irazabal, a defensive stalwart currently playing for Sabah FK in Azerbaijan, described his decision as deeply personal and patriotic.

“I chose Malaysia because I truly believe this is where my national duty lies.

I’m already beginning to feel how unique and special it is to play for this country.”

Joao Figueiredo: “An Honour to Chase Asian Glory with Malaysia”

Brazilian forward Joao Figueiredo, who has also joined the national team setup, spoke of his ambitions to help Malaysia reach greater heights in Asia and beyond.

“This season is deeply meaningful for me. Representing Malaysia and sharing this dream with all of you—to go further in Asia and on the world stage—is a real honour.

I can’t wait to feel the love and support of the fans. It’s something truly extraordinary.”

Holgado, Figueiredo, Machuca, and Irazabal are expected to play key roles when Harimau Malaya face Vietnam on 10 June in the all-important AFC Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers.
