Malaysia’s national team, will make full use of two upcoming Tier 1 international friendlies next month as they continue preparations for major competitions ahead.
Head coach Peter Cklamovski’s side will face two opponents from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) during the FIFA international window in September, both matches set to be played at home but in different venues.
Malaysia will first rekindle their Causeway rivalry against 159th-ranked Singapore at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium on 4 September. Four days later, they will host 98th-ranked Palestine at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium on 8 September, a clash expected to be a sterner test for the squad.
“The Tier 1 international friendly schedule has been confirmed. Our national team will play two high-quality matches at two different venues, serving as crucial preparations for upcoming tournaments,” the Football Association of Malaysia said in a statement today.
These matches were arranged after Malaysia withdrew from the Central Asian Football Association (CAFA) Nations Cup 2025. Instead, the Harimau Malaya opted for stronger bilateral fixtures that would provide more focused preparation.
The friendlies against Singapore and Palestine will act as key warm-ups before Malaysia begins their 2027 AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers, starting with back-to-back clashes against Laos on 9 and 14 October, followed by a meeting with Nepal on 18 November.
With Cklamovski determined to build momentum, the September fixtures present not only a chance to fine-tune tactics but also an opportunity for Malaysia to gauge their readiness against familiar and challenging opposition.
