Terengganu FC clawed back from a two-goal deficit to secure a 2-2 draw against PDRM FC in an action-packed Liga Super Malaysia 2025/26 at the Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium on Wednesday night.
The East Coast side – nicknamed “Peteh” – were hoping to secure their first victory over PDRM since March 2023, while the visitors, “The Cops,” were eager to bounce back from a 2-2 stalemate against Brunei DPMM FC in their previous outing.
Terengganu relied on attacking trio Gabriel Silva, Akhyar Rashid, and Yann Mabella, with new signing Henri Doumbia starting up front for PDRM in place of young Nigerian striker Elisha Kashim.
The first half saw Terengganu pushing hard through Silva, Akhyar, and Mabella, but it was PDRM who struck first in the 13th minute. Doumbia latched onto Safiee Ahmad’s clever pass and calmly slotted past Terengganu keeper Suhaimi Husin.
Shaken but undeterred, Terengganu pressed for an equaliser, with Myanmar’s defensive general Kyaw Min Oo anchoring their build-up play. Mabella went close in the 33rd minute, only to be denied by PDRM shot-stopper Ifwat Akmal Chek Kassim. Former Perak FC forward Careca also came close just before the break, but Ifwat once again preserved the lead with a sharp save, keeping the score at 1-0 at half-time.
The second half began with Terengganu piling on the pressure, but disaster struck again in the 57th minute. Doumbia broke the offside trap and rolled the ball into an empty net for his second of the night, giving PDRM a 2-0 cushion.
The home fans finally had something to cheer about six minutes later when Azam Azmi Murad pulled one back for Peteh. Terengganu then introduced fresh legs, bringing on Baqiuddin Shamsudin, Saiful Jamaluddin, and Khalaif Naskam to chase the game.
Doumbia almost completed his hat-trick in the 73rd minute, but his shot was easily gathered by Suhaimi. Mabella came agonisingly close to equalising in the 82nd minute, but Amir Saiful Badeli cleared the ball off the line in dramatic fashion.
Terengganu’s persistence finally paid off in the dying minutes when the referee awarded them a penalty after spotting a handball by Safiee. Mabella stepped up and coolly converted to level the score at 2-2.
With nine minutes of added time, Terengganu threw everything forward in search of a winner, but PDRM held firm to share the spoils.
The result keeps Terengganu in second place with four points, while PDRM sit sixth on two points. Up next, Terengganu face Imigresen FC in the FA Cup Round of 16 on August 17, while PDRM meet Negeri Sembilan FC a day later.
