Sri Pahang FC showed ‘what a comeback!’ in the last minute after tying Kuching City scoring 2-2 in the Liga Super Malaysia 2024/25 at Stadium Negeri, Kuching.
Kuching broke the deadlock in the 19th minute after Tchetche Kipre capitalised on a chance through a cloudy situation in the penalty box, and despite protests from Pahang players, the goal was confirmed via Video Referee Assistance (VAR).
A minute later, the hosts continued to be enthusiastic about chasing the second goal, and Kipre continued to disrupt the Pahang defence by launching an attempt. Luckily, his shot went straight to Zarif Irfan Hashimuddin’s feet.
Kuching continued to ease into the dugout after Jordan Mintah’s header crashed into Pahang’s goal to give them a two-goal lead after the first 45 minutes.
Continuing with the second half, Pahang’s best chance came in the 54th minute through Ruziev Kuvondik’s try, but his shot was saved by Wan Azraie Wan Teh, followed by Stefano Brundao’s header which went astray two minutes later.
The visitors reduced the deficit in the 62nd minute with Adam Nor Azlin’s header before Pahang was upset by VAR cancelling Brundao’s goal in the 66th minute if one of their players was offside before the goal was made.
Hidalgo managed to score an equalizer in the 76th minute but VAR once again intervened and Pahang breathed a sigh of relief when the goal was confirmed.
No additional goals could be scored even though 12 minutes of extra time was given at once forcing both teams to share one point.
After this, Kuching City will face Sabah FC for the ‘Borneo Derby’ while the third match week will be SPFC’s turn to rest and see this season’s rivals featuring an odd number of teams.
