Selangor FC earned 3 points and confirmed to secure 2nd place in the league this season after beating Kelantan Darul Naim scoring 7-0 in the Liga Super Malaysia 2024/25 at MBPJ Stadium, Petaling Jaya.
National winger Faisal Halim returned to Selangor’s starting lineup, while Kelantan DN’s attack was led by Hakimi Abdullah. The Red Giants wasted no time asserting their dominance, with Faisal opening the scoring in the 12th minute, capitalizing on a precise pass from captain Safuwan Baharudin to beat goalkeeper Alfaiz Zula’amin. This marked Faisal’s first goal since Selangor’s clash against PDRM FC on December 17, 2023.
Harith Haiqal Adam Afkar nearly doubled the lead in the 23rd minute, but his attempt sailed over the crossbar. Seven minutes later, Quentin Cheng thrilled the home fans with a stunning strike to make it 2-0.
Selangor’s relentless pressure paid off once more in the dying moments of the first half, as Faisal bagged his second goal to send the hosts into the break with a commanding 3-0 lead.
Kelantan DN coach Rezal Zambery Yahya attempted to change the tempo by introducing Fikri Che Soh and Ahmad Amjad Huzeny, while Selangor brought on Jordanian defender Mohammad Abualnadi. However, the changes did little to stem the tide.
Harith Haiqal made amends for his earlier miss with a quickfire brace in the 54th and 56th minutes, stretching Selangor’s lead to 5-0.
Faisal then completed his hat-trick in the 66th minute, effortlessly converting a pass from substitute Mukhairi Ajmal. Substitute Aliff Izwan Yuslan added further misery to the visitors with a well-taken goal in the 73rd minute, making it 7-0—the biggest win of Selangor’s 2024/25 season.
Despite their dominance, Selangor were reduced to 10 men in the 81st minute after Jordanian forward Ali Olwan was stretchered off following a reckless challenge by Syahir Rashid.
Selangor continued pressing for more goals but had to settle for an emphatic 7-0 victory, cementing their second-place finish for the second consecutive year with 46 points. Kelantan DN, meanwhile, remained in 13th place with just seven points.
Selangor will next face Kuching City FC on March 16, while Kelantan DN braces for a tough test against reigning champions Johor Darul Ta’zim on April 4.
