Selangor FC continuing to keep 3 points after beating Sabah FC scoring 2-1 in the Liga Super Malaysia 2024/25 at Likas Stadium, Kota Kinabalu.
Selangor FC under control of Nidzam Jamil fielded a strong lineup, featuring key attackers Ronnie Fernandez, Alvin Fortes, and Reziq Bani. Meanwhile, Sabah FC, under Ong Kim Swee, aimed to capitalize on their home advantage to secure three valuable points and strengthen their position in the league.
The match began energetically, with both teams battling for dominance despite the rainy conditions. Sabah took the lead in the 27th minute when a powerful shot from Jafri Firdaus deflected off Selangor defender Safuwan Baharuddin, resulting in an own goal.
Selangor quickly responded five minutes later, with striker Ronnie Fernandez leveling the score with a powerful strike that left Sabah’s goalkeeper, Khairul Fahmi Che Mat, with no chance. The first half ended with the score tied at 1-1.
In the second half, Selangor looked more dangerous, especially with long-range efforts from Nooa Laine. As the match approached the final minutes, Selangor made key substitutions, bringing on Faisal Halim and Quentin Cheng to replace Nooa Laine and Shahrul Nazeem.
The breakthrough for Selangor came in the 85th minute when young defender Harith Haiqal scored the winning goal with a quick header from a corner kick. Despite five minutes of added time, the score remained unchanged, and Selangor emerged victorious with a 2-1 win.
With this victory, Selangor FC maintain their 2nd position in the Super League with 19 points, while Sabah FC remains with 13 points.
