Johor Darul Ta’Zim still secure unbeaten record after beating Kedah Darul Aman scoring 6-1 in the Liga Super Malaysia 2024/25 at Darul Aman Stadium, Alor Setar.
Despite already securing the league title, JDT showed no signs of complacency, while Kedah aimed to end their three-match losing streak in the league. Kedah’s attack was spearheaded by Ebenezer Assifuah, while JDT welcomed Natxo Insa back onto the bench after recovering from injury.
The match began with an early chance for the home side, as Fayadh Zulkifli nearly put Kedah ahead in the 13th minute, only to see his shot hit the side netting. That close call ignited JDT’s response, and they wasted no time in asserting their authority.
Bergson opened the scoring for the visitors just four minutes later, slotting home to give JDT the lead. The Southern Tigers quickly doubled their advantage in the 18th minute, with Romel Morales finishing off a well-placed pass from Bergson.
In the 23rd minute, JDT were awarded a penalty after Wan Amirul Afiq Wan Ab Rahman fouled Oscar Arribas inside the box. Bergson confidently converted the spot-kick for his 25th league goal of the season, extending JDT’s lead to 3-0.
Kedah managed to pull one back in the 33rd minute when Afeeq Iqmal Rosli took advantage of an opportunity, chipping the ball past JDT goalkeeper Syihan Hazmi into an empty net. The score remained 3-1 at halftime, with JDT firmly in control.
Kedah attempted to shift the momentum in the second half, launching quick counterattacks that forced JDT’s defense to stay alert. The intensity of the game saw four JDT players—Arribas, Jordi Amat, Matt Davies, and Park Jun-heong—receive yellow cards.
JDT reasserted their dominance in the 61st minute when Amat found the net with a close-range header, making it 4-1. In response, Kedah’s head coach Victor Andrag introduced Milos Gordic, Kamal Hakim Abd Halim, Danial Termizi, and Aiman Farhan Muhamad Fauzi in an attempt to stem the onslaught.
However, substitute Nazmi Faiz Mansor extended JDT’s lead in the 83rd minute, his shot deflecting off Wan Amirul Afiq before nestling into the net. The final blow came in stoppage time when Bergson completed his hat-trick with a second penalty, earned after Mohamadou Sumareh was brought down in the box.
JDT maintained relentless pressure until the final whistle, securing a dominant 6-1 victory. The win solidified JDT’s position at the top of the table with 64 points, while Kedah remained in 11th place with 20 points.
KDA FC will look to bounce back when they face Sri Pahang FC on April 8, while JDT prepares to host Kelantan Darul Naim on April 10.
