Johor Darul Ta’Zim still on the top of table after beating Kuala Lumpur City with a score of 5-0 in the Liga Super Malaysia 2022 at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, Iskandar Puteri.
The fourth consecutive win also strengthened the defending champion’s position at the top with 35 points, four points ahead of Sabah. In fact, JDT is still one game short of the second ranked team.
It was also a pretty good start for Hector Pablo Bidoglio who was introduced as the new manager of JDT last Thursday to replace Benjamin Mora.
The hosts, who dominated the game from the opening whistle, did not wait long to be in front after Bergson da Silva gave them the lead as early as the seventh minute.
Bergson had no problem converting the penalty after Giancarlo Gallifuoco’s foul on another import striker, Fernando Forestieri.
Entering the 25th minute, Bergson added a second goal which was also his 16th personal goal in the league competition this season as a result of his nimble movement past the control of two opposing defenders and finished well to go on to beat Kevin Ray Mendoza.
The match referee, Mohd Fusser Md Sallih once again awarded a penalty kick to the eight-time Super League champion following Anwar Ibrahim’s foul on Arif Aiman Mohd Hanapi.
The kick taken by Leandro Velasquez in the 55th minute was unable to be stopped by Kevin Ray even though the goalkeeper of the Philippine national team was able to read the direction of Leandro’s kick.
Not enough with that advantage, JDT added a fourth goal when the game entered the 70th minute through Forestieri following an interesting ‘one-two’ move he embodied with Leandro.
Substitute Safawi Rasid closed the scoring party in the 84th minute when his long-range shot could not be stopped by Kevin Ray to secure a 5-0 win in favor of JDT.
