Malaysia National team upcoming journey at the CAFA Nations Cup 2025 will be strengthened by vital scheduling support from the Malaysian Football League (MFL), ensuring Malaysia’s national team enters the tournament with full focus and optimal preparation.
Under the guidance of head coach Peter Cklamovski, Malaysia is confirmed to fly to Central Asia to compete in the prestigious tournament, which is set to kick off from August 26 to September 9, 2025, across Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan.
Concerns had arisen over the clash between the opening phase of the CAFA Nations Cup and the domestic Malaysia Super League, which begins on August 8 — a period falling outside of the official FIFA international window. This scheduling overlap initially raised doubts over player availability for national duty.
However, in an interview with Zulhelmi Zainal Azam, Peter Cklamovski revealed that proactive discussions had already taken place with MFL to address the situation.
“We’ve spoken to MFL about the match schedule and are working closely with them to ensure players are fully prepared for the tournament,” said Cklamovski.
The collaboration was met positively by Acting CEO of MFL, Mohd Shazli Shaik, who reaffirmed the league’s unwavering support for the national team’s ambitions.
In a strong display of commitment to Harimau Malaya’s cause, MFL has agreed to suspend Super League fixtures during the tournament window, clearing the calendar and allowing full squad access for Malaysia’s campaign.
“MFL views this tournament as an important part of the national team’s preparations for the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers this October,” Shazli told Stadium Astro.
The CAFA Nations Cup 2025, which enters its second edition this year, will feature eight elite nations from Asia, including powerhouses Iran, Uzbekistan, and host Kyrgyzstan, alongside Malaysia. The tournament will serve as both a competitive platform and a vital stepping stone toward Harimau Malaya’s greater international aspirations.
