PT Liga Indonesia Baru (PT LIB) decided to temporarily stop the competition BRI Liga 1 Indonesia 1 week. After the incident that occurred at the Kanjuruhan Stadium, Malang last night.
Arema FC suffered a 2-3 defeat when they hosted Persebaya Surabaya in the 11th-week match of the BRI Liga 1 titled the East Java derby at the Kanjuruhan Stadium. The defeat of the mortal rival has a long tail.
Although at first the situation at the end of the match was fairly conducive, but then a number of Aremania who entered the field began to make the situation out of control.
Security guards took the option of firing tear gas and panic ensued. Many victims fell, ranging from shortness of breath due to the effects of the gas fired to being trampled by other fans who panicked.
In addition to expressing his concern, the President Director of PT LIB, Akhmad Hadian Lukita, also emphasized that BRI Liga 1 will be suspended for the next week.
“We are concerned and deeply regret the incident. We are sorry for this and hopefully, this will be a valuable lesson for all of us,” said Akhmad Hadian Lukita Director of PT LIB.
“We announced the decision (to stop the competition) after getting directions from the PSSI General Chair. We did this out of respect and pending the investigation process from PSSI,”
However, Zainudin Amali minister of sports Indonesia says authorities will re-evaluate safety at football matches.
“We’re sorry for this incident… This is a regrettable incident that ‘injures’ our football at a time when supporters can watch matches from the stadium,” He said via Kompas TV.
Now, The Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) announced a ban on home matches for Arema for the rest of the season. And President Joko Widodo later instructed the association to suspend all Liga 1 matches until all “evaluation of improvement of security procedures” is carried out.
