In a move that has captured the attention of Malaysian football supporters, former Ultras Malaya leader Lekir Ahmad has temporarily come out of retirement to issue an emotional call for fans to fill the KLFA Stadium and back Harimau Malaya in their crucial ASEAN Hyundai Cup 2026 Group B encounter against Laos on Monday night.
Known as one of the most influential voices behind Malaysia’s football supporter movement, Lekir urged fans not to let ongoing issues surrounding Malaysian football overshadow the importance of supporting the national team during the regional tournament.
The campaign carries a powerful message directed at Malaysian football supporters:
“Leave the dispute behind for a while.”
It continues with an appeal aimed at those who have chosen not to join the boycott movement:
“Those who are not boycotting, come on! Don’t leave the players alone.”
The message reflects Lekir’s belief that, regardless of differing opinions about the current state of Malaysian football, the players wearing the national jersey should continue receiving unwavering support from the stands.
It also carries another rallying cry:
“All Malaysian football supporters, let’s go to the stadium! Give your full support to Harimau Malaya. Unite our spirit, together for Malaysia!”
Lekir’s appeal comes amid continuing debate within Malaysia’s football community.
In recent days, sections of supporters have called for a stadium boycott as a form of protest over issues surrounding the administration and governance of Malaysian football.
The supporters’ group insists the boycott will remain until the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) seriously addresses several key issues that have sparked widespread debate within Malaysian football.
Among their primary demands are the revocation of citizenship for seven players allegedly linked to document falsification issues, the return of full management of Harimau Malaya to FAM, and comprehensive reforms across Malaysian football governance and administration.
However, Lekir’s latest message encourages fans to separate their dissatisfaction with football authorities from their support for the national players, emphasizing that Harimau Malaya should not face the challenge without the backing of its supporters.
With Malaysia preparing for an important ASEAN Hyundai Cup fixture, the appeal highlights the belief that the national team deserves a united atmosphere regardless of differing views outside the pitch.
