National men’s singles shuttler Leong Jun Hao delivered a stunning upset at the Kumamoto Masters 2024 by defeating local favorite and second seed Kodai Naraoka in the quarter-finals.
The unseeded Jun Hao battled for an intense one hour and 20 minutes, securing a 21-17, 9-21, 21-16 victory over the world number four at the Kumamoto Prefectural Gymnasium. This win marks Jun Hao’s third triumph in four meetings against Naraoka, underscoring his growing prowess on the international stage.
With Jun Hao in singles and two doubles pairs in the last four, Malaysia has shown remarkable depth and resilience in the Super 500 tournament.
“Jun Hao’s determination and the doubles teams’ composure reflect the strength of Malaysia’s badminton talent. All eyes will be on the semi-finals as they fight for a place in the finals,” said a representative from BAM.
