Kim Pan-Gon, head coach of Malaysia national team, believes the team will be emerging champions in Merdeka Cup 2023 in October 2023, even though he will be facing a team at a higher rank.
Malaysia will be the host of Pestabola Merdeka 2023 during 13-17 October 2023, at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and will face India, the team in 99th rank of FIFA World Rankings in the Semi-Final on 13 October.
“All the other three teams participating in the championship are on a higher rank than us including India.” Pan-Gon said
“We know where we are, even though our ranking has improved a lot but it is still 136th and India 99th.”
“We are monitoring the Indian squad which they are in the best momentum. We respect them and I will make an analysis of them to make the best preparations.”
“Even though we are ranked lower, we will have the advantage of playing at our own arena. So we hope all Malaysian supporters will come to the stadium to provide support for us to reach our target of reaching the final and emerging champions,”
