Kim Do-Heon, head coach Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors, expressed mixed feelings after his team’s slim 1-0 victory over Malaysia’s Selangor FC in the AFC Champions League Two 2024/25 Group Stage, Group H.
While the win was crucial, Kim acknowledged that a more emphatic scoreline would have been ideal to showcase the team’s attacking potential.
The match’s decisive moment came from Brazilian forward Tiago Orobo, whose expertly placed header defeated Selangor goalkeeper Azim Al-Amin, securing Jeonbuk’s three points.
Despite the narrow margin, Kim emphasized the importance of securing victories, particularly in high-stakes tournaments like ACL2.
“In terms of the style of play, this match (against Selangor) could have been better if it ended with a lot of goals. We are ready for such a game pattern but are building it bit by bit.
“The most important thing is to win. Victory should come first. We also need to give joy to the fans by scoring a lot of goals. As a coach, I work hard with the players to achieve this desire. This pushes us to grow better.”
Kim also highlighted the need for improvement, promising better preparation for upcoming matches.
Jeonbuk’s victory elevated them to the top of the Group H standings with 9 points from four matches, while Selangor FC remains in second place with 7 points.
The next round of fixtures will see Jeonbuk face the group’s bottom-placed team, Dynamic Herb Cebu FC, on November 28. On the same day, Selangor will host Thailand’s Muangthong United, aiming to maintain their position in the group and secure a spot in the knockout stages.
