Riyadh: FIFA World Cup winning midfielder N’Golo Kanté has signed a two-year deal to join two-time AFC Champions League™ winners Al Ittihad, the Saudi Pro League club announced on Tuesday.
“Kanté has signed a three-year contract with the club,” said Al Ittihad in a statement.
“The contract was finalised on Tuesday , June 20th, after Kanté completed his tests at a specialized medical center in Dubai.”
The 32-year-old joins his compatriot Karim Benzema, who had swapped Real Madrid for the Jeddah outfit earlier this month.
Kanté was a key member of the historic Leicester City side that won the 2015-16 English Premier League before moving to Chelsea where he won the title again the following season. During his seven-year stay at Stamford Bridge, he won numerous titles including the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League.
The Paris-born midfield enforcer was a crucial part of Didier Deschamps’ FIFA World Cup winning side in Russia 2018 but missed out on France’s run to the final in Qatar 2022 through injury.
Al Ittihad have recently won the 2022-23 Saudi Pro League title and are set to compete in the AFC Champions League 2023/24 and the FIFA Club World Cup Saudi Arabia 2023.
