In a bold step aligned with Johor’s ambition to become Malaysia’s premier sports hub, the Johor Badminton Association (JBA) is set to host the Malaysia Super 100 tournament from October 14–19, 2025, marking a significant return of world-class badminton to the southern region.
Announced by JBA President Datuk Chong Juong Chain, this milestone event is sanctioned by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) and will take place at the Indoor Arena, Educity Sports Complex in Iskandar Puteri. BWF officials have already completed a technical inspection of the venue and granted approval for the tournament.
“This is a golden opportunity for Johor and for Malaysian badminton,” said Chong during a media briefing on May 27. “For far too long, major BWF tournaments such as the Malaysian Open and Malaysian Masters have been centered in Kuala Lumpur. It’s time to extend that experience to other regions.”
The last time a BWF World Tour event was staged outside the Klang Valley was in 2017, when Sarawak hosted both the Malaysian Open (in Kuching) and the Malaysian Masters (in Sibu). For fans in Johor and surrounding states, this upcoming Super 100 tournament promises world-class action and the chance to cheer on local and international stars up close.
Johor has previously hosted several international tournaments, but the last world-level event dates back 11 years, when the Malaysian Masters was held in Pasir Gudang. This year’s Super 100 marks a homecoming of elite badminton and a significant milestone in the state’s sporting journey.
“We are deeply thankful for the support from the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM),” Chong added. “Our focus is not just on hosting but also on developing badminton in Johor. As the state moves toward becoming a central sporting hub, badminton will be one of our flagship sports.”
The Malaysia Super 100 debuted in 2023 with a total prize pool of USD 100,000. The inaugural edition in Kuala Lumpur saw Leong Jun Hao win the men’s singles title, while mixed doubles pair Chan Peng Soon-Cheah Yee See also triumphed. In 2024, BAM took over hosting duties, moving the event to Stadium Juara, where Malaysia once again shone with two titles, including men’s and women’s doubles.
With months of planning and coordination already underway, Johor’s return to the global badminton spotlight is poised to be a resounding success—both in terms of sporting spectacle and regional development.
