Johor Darul Ta’zim FC (JDT) have made a bold move to further elevate their club management by appointing UEFA Champions League winner and former Spanish international Luis Garcia as Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective 1 April 2025.
The strategic appointment is part of a major restructuring aimed at strengthening and maximizing the expertise within the club’s leadership.
Garcia, a former Barcelona, Liverpool, and Atletico Madrid star, brings a wealth of experience both on and off the pitch. In addition to his illustrious playing career, he holds a UEFA Pro License and the prestigious UEFA Executive Master for International Players.
His vast football knowledge and previous ambassadorial roles with FIFA, UEFA, and LaLiga make him a highly qualified figure to lead JDT into a new era of growth and success.
As part of the restructuring, JDT have also appointed Alistair Edwards as the club’s new Chief Operating Officer (COO), while he retains his role as Technical Director. The former Australian international and Johor football icon previously held the Technical Director position from 2017 to 2022, playing a key role in developing JDT’s youth system and shaping the club’s dominant academy structure.
This significant shake-up underscores JDT’s commitment to maintaining their status as Malaysia’s premier football club while aiming for greater heights on the continental stage.
