Malaysia’s promising young men’s doubles pair Aaron Tai and Kang Khai Xing saw their impressive run at the 2026 Japan Open come to an end after falling to world No. 1 duo Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae of South Korea in the quarter-finals of the BWF Super 750 tournament.
Despite another encouraging week on the World Tour, the rising Malaysian partnership found the reigning world champions a step too far as the Koreans showcased why they currently sit atop the world rankings.
Competing on Court 1, the world No. 22 Malaysians struggled to match the relentless pace, precision and experience of Kim and Seo from the opening rally.
The South Korean stars controlled the match from start to finish, needing just 33 minutes to secure a convincing 21-13, 21-10 victory and book their place in the semi-finals.
Aaron and Khai Xing fought hard throughout both games, but the 2025 World Champions consistently dictated the tempo with their superior attacking play and defensive stability.
Although their Japan Open campaign ended in the last eight, the tournament represents another significant milestone for the young Malaysian partnership.
At just 19 and 20 years old, Aaron Tai and Kang Khai Xing have now reached the quarter-finals of a BWF Super 750 event for the second time in their careers.
Their previous appearance at this stage came at the 2026 Singapore Open in late May, underlining the steady progress they have made against the world’s elite pairs.
While the defeat exposed the gap between the Malaysians and the world’s best, it also highlighted the enormous potential of one of Malaysia’s brightest young men’s doubles combinations.
Regular appearances in the latter stages of Super 750 tournaments provide invaluable experience as Aaron and Khai Xing continue their development on the BWF World Tour.
With consistency, maturity and confidence continuing to grow, the Malaysian duo remains one of the country’s most exciting prospects for the future of men’s doubles badminton.
