Indonesia Football Association (PSSI) has officially announced the termination of Shin Tae-yong’s contract as the head coach of the Indonesia Senior and U23 National Teams.
This decision follows an extensive evaluation process by the PSSI and the National Team Agency. The review focused on the performance of the national teams under Shin Tae-yong’s leadership, as well as the long-term objectives of Indonesian football on both the regional and international stages.
In a statement, PSSI expressed its gratitude for Shin Tae-yong’s efforts and contributions to the development of the Indonesian National Football Team during his tenure. “PSSI thanks and appreciates all contributions that have been given to the development of the Indonesian National Football Team,” the statement read.
Shin Tae-yong, a seasoned coach with an impressive resume, was appointed in 2019. During his time, he brought significant attention to the team’s potential and led Indonesia to several notable achievements, including their runner-up finish in the 2020 AFF Championship.
While the PSSI decision marks the end of Shin Tae-yong’s era, the association emphasized its commitment to building a stronger national team that aligns with its long-term vision for Indonesian football. The PSSI’s focus now shifts to identifying a successor who can further elevate the team’s performance on the global stage.
PSSI also wished Shin Tae-yong success in his future endeavors, stating, “PSSI wishes Shin Tae-yong the best for the future.”
