Malaysia’s mixed doubles challenge at the YONEX-Sunrise India Open 2026 came to an end after Goh Soon Huat–Lai Shevon Jemie suffered a narrow defeat to China’s top seeds Feng Yan Zhe–Huang Dong Ping in the quarter-finals of the HSBC BWF World Tour Super 750 event on Friday.
In a pulsating encounter, the Malaysian pair went down 19-21, 21-19, 18-21 after pushing the world No.1 combination to the limit in a match that showcased intensity, tactical discipline and fine margins at the highest level.
Feng–Huang drew first blood by edging the opening game 21-19, capitalising on their experience in key moments. Refusing to back down, Goh-Shevon responded with renewed aggression in the second game, tightening their net play and defensive transitions to level the contest with a hard-earned 21-19 win.
In the deciding match, both pairs fought fiercely, exchanging points until the end of the game, and there were several breaks due to Feng Yan Zhe sustaining an injury from falling on the court.
However, the Chinese duo’s composure under pressure proved decisive as they pulled away late to seal the match 21-18, ending the Malaysians’ impressive run in New Delhi.
