World No. 2 men’s doubles pair, Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Rumsani, brought glory to Malaysia by ending an 11-year title drought at the YONEX-SUNRISE India Open 2025.
They claimed the men’s doubles crown on Sunday (Jan 19) with a hard-fought victory at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex in New Delhi.
The Malaysian duo triumphed over South Korea’s scratch pairing, Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae, in a thrilling 53-minute final. The scoreline of 21-15, 13-21, 21-16 reflected their resilience and tactical brilliance, as they navigated a fiercely contested match to secure the prestigious title.
This victory marked Sze Fei and Izzuddin’s fourth title in five World Tour finals since August last year, highlighting their remarkable consistency and dominance on the international stage. Their impressive run includes victories at the Japan Open Super 750, China Open Super 1000, and Arctic Open Super 500.
The duo’s success in New Delhi also ends Malaysia’s long wait for an India Open title. The last Malaysian to triumph at the tournament was former World No. 1 Datuk Lee Chong Wei, who won the men’s singles title in 2014. For the men’s doubles event, it had been even longer—Zakry Latif and Fairuzizuan Tazari were the last Malaysian pair to win the title back in 2010.
This latest triumph cements Sze Fei and Izzuddin’s position as one of Malaysia’s most formidable doubles partnerships and offers renewed hope for the nation’s continued success on the global badminton stage.
