Nepal National Team made a first victory in this year after beating Singapore National Team scoring 0-1 in the International ‘A’ Match FIFA Day at Singapore National Stadium, Kallang.
The friendly served as a crucial warm-up for both teams ahead of their 2027 AFC Asian Cup qualifying campaign, but it was Nepal who emerged victorious, thanks to an early strike from Gillespye Jung Karki.
Selangor FC captain Safuwan Baharudin led the Lions’ backline, while Nepal’s head coach, Matt Ross, placed his faith in Karki to spearhead the attack.
The Gorkhalis took an unexpected lead in the 12th minute when Karki found the back of the net, stunning the home crowd. Singapore, under head coach Tsutomu Ogura, responded with a series of attacks, with Kyoga Nakamura, Abdul Rasaq Akeem, and Farhan Zulkifli attempting to break down Nepal’s defense.
Despite their efforts, the Lions failed to convert their chances, and Nepal entered halftime with a narrow 1-0 advantage.
Singapore made several second-half substitutions in search of an equalizer, but Nepal’s resolute defense stood firm. The Gorkhalis absorbed every attacking wave and frustrated the Lions, ensuring their historic first win over Singapore in four meetings.
The victory also marked Matt Ross’ first triumph as Nepal’s head coach, injecting much-needed confidence into the squad ahead of their upcoming fixtures.
Singapore will now look to regroup before facing Hong Kong on March 25, while Nepal will shift their focus to a tough clash against Malaysia at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium (SSI) on the same day.
