Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has expressed its hope that Ultras Malaya, along with other supporter groups, will reconsider their planned boycott of the Pestabola Merdeka 2024.
Datuk Noor Azman Rahman, FAM Secretary General, emphasized the importance of fan support at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium, especially since this year’s tournament offers valuable FIFA ranking points.
Noor Azman urged all supporter groups to rally behind the Harimau Malaya team during their matches on September 4 and 8. He highlighted the significance of the tournament, which falls within the FIFA International Match Calendar from September 2 to 10, 2024, and the impact it could have on Malaysia’s standing in the FIFA rankings.
The call for a boycott, supported by various supporter groups across different states, poses a challenge for FAM, who is keen to see strong fan turnout at the National Stadium. Noor Azman remains hopeful that the passionate Malaysian supporters will show up in full force to encourage the national squad in this important competition.
