The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has confirmed that it has officially received the binding decision issued by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) regarding the appeal filed by the national governing body and seven Malaysian players in relation to disciplinary proceedings.
According to the statement released on Friday, March 6, 2026, FAM’s appeal has been rejected, while the appeals submitted by the seven players were partially upheld. Despite some amendments to their original sanctions, the players will still face an additional eight-month suspension from competitive football.
FAM clarified that the full written reasoning behind the CAS decision has not yet been published. As such, the association stated that any detailed assessment of the ruling will only be made once the complete documentation has been reviewed.
While acknowledging the authority of CAS, FAM expressed concern that the sanctions imposed appear disproportionate, particularly when compared with punishments issued in previous similar cases handled by the tribunal.
The governing body added that it will further evaluate the situation once the full decision is available.
During the proceedings, the Football Association of Malaysia acknowledged responsibility for what it described as a failure in supervisory oversight connected to the case.
Investigations related to the matter are still ongoing, involving Malaysian government agencies as well as the world governing body FIFA. FAM reiterated its commitment to fully cooperate with all relevant authorities as the investigations continue.
FAM also highlighted the impact of the ruling on the players involved, noting that they were not part of the administrative processes linked to the case and had no knowledge of the administrative matters under investigation.
The association stressed that the players are Malaysian citizens who were granted citizenship in accordance with the country’s legal provisions, emphasizing that the outcome is particularly disappointing for them personally.
Despite the setback, FAM thanked supporters for their unwavering backing during a difficult period for Malaysian football.
The association assured that the national team will remain focused on its objectives and continue striving to strengthen the development and performance of football in the country.
The statement concluded with a message of resilience, underlining that Malaysian football will move forward while addressing the issues raised by the case.
