Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has announced the appointment of Dr. Craig Duncan from Australia as the Head of High Performance & Sports Medicine for the Malaysia national team, marking another significant step in the organization’s restructuring and revolution of Malaysian football.
Dr. Craig Duncan brings an impressive resume to Malaysian football. For the past 15 years, he has been the CEO of the Performance Intelligence Agency, where he specialized in optimizing athlete performance through innovative methodologies. His previous roles include:
- Head of Sports Science at Football Federation Australia (2014–2018).
- Senior Lecturer in Exercise and Sports Science at the Australian Catholic University since 2013.
- Advisor at Elite Performance Partners since 2021.
- Dr. Craig holds a PhD in Exercise and Sports Science from the University of Sydney and a Master of Leadership from Deakin University.
Dr. Craig’s holistic approach to player management has led to remarkable success stories, including: Leading Sydney FC to an A-League title, Overseeing the Western Sydney Wanderers’ historic Asian Champions League win in 2014, Supporting New South Wales (NSW) in breaking their State of Origin title drought in 2014 and 2018, Contributing to the Socceroos’ Asian Cup victory in 2015, and Enhancing the performance of the Iran national team, which reached the semi-finals of the 2019 Asian Cup.
At FAM, Dr. Craig will oversee High-Performance Framework Development, which involves Establishing a world-class structure for sports science and medicine. Key Focus Areas include physical fitness, recovery, nutrition, sports psychology, and staff development. Advanced Integration involves implementing cutting-edge sports science and technology for all national teams and leagues,
Dr. Craig Duncan will officially begin his tenure at Wisma FAM, Kelana Jaya, in January 2025. His arrival is expected to revolutionize the way Malaysia’s national teams prepare and compete, placing a renewed emphasis on physical, tactical, and psychological readiness.
