Malaysian Football League (MFL) has officially confirmed that DPMM FC of Brunei Darussalam will fully sponsor the travel expenses of all Liga Super Malaysia teams traveling to Brunei for matches during the 2025/26 season.
This unprecedented initiative was announced by Acting MFL Chief Executive Officer Mohd Shazli Shaik Mohd, who stated that the arrangement is part of a broader agreement between MFL and DPMM FC, ensuring the Brunei club’s smooth participation in the Malaysian league structure.
“One of the key terms of the agreement with DPMM FC involves their commitment to cover all travel-related costs for visiting teams. They made the request and have agreed to fully sponsor the expenses for the upcoming season,” said Mohd Shazli during the launch event of the official 2025/2026 league match ball, the PUMA Orbita MFL 1, held earlier today.
While DPMM FC will compete in the Super League, Mohd Shazli clarified that the club will not be eligible to represent Malaysia in international competitions such as the AFC Cup or AFF tournaments.
“If DPMM FC finishes in a qualifying position for continental competitions, the slot will not be awarded to them, as those positions are reserved strictly for Malaysian-based clubs,” he explained.
The launch of the PUMA Orbita MFL 1 also marked the final phase of preparations ahead of the new season, which is scheduled to kick off on 8 August 2025. All 12 participating clubs have confirmed their respective home venues.
The Darul Makmur Stadium in Kuantan has been selected as an alternate venue, particularly for East Coast-based clubs facing local scheduling conflicts. Mohd Shazli noted that Stadium Sultan Muhammad IV in Kota Bharu will be unavailable throughout Ramadan due to its use as a prayer venue.
Imigresen FC, one of the two newly promoted teams from the AFL A1, has been given until Monday to confirm their home ground for the upcoming campaign. Meanwhile, an MFL delegation is scheduled to visit Brunei on 10 and 11 July for a special briefing with DPMM FC management.
