Malaysian badminton players delivered a series of mixed results in the Round of 32 at the prestigious VICTOR China Open 2025, with standout performances in both singles and mixed doubles events.
Malaysia’s Leong Jun Hao impressed with a commanding straight-game victory over Japan’s Kenta Nishimoto, winning 21-15, 21-18. The 24-year-old showcased his tactical prowess and composure to progress confidently into the next round.
It was a tough outing for the Malaysian pair Choong Hon Jian and Muhammad Haikal, who struggled to match the intensity of Indonesia’s Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Shohibul Fikri. The Malaysians fell 0-2 (11-21, 10-21) in a one-sided contest.
Top-seeded pair Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei [4] got off to a winning start, brushing aside American duo Presley Smith and Jennie Gai in straight sets 22-20, 21-12, showing why they’re among the tournament’s favourites.
Meanwhile, Hoo Pang Ron and Cheng Su Yin were unable to get past China’s Gao Jia Xuan and Wu Meng Ying, falling 15-21, 16-21 in a match where unforced errors proved costly.
In a spirited comeback, the pairing of Wong Tien Ci and Lim Chiew Sien pulled off a thrilling three-game win over India’s Rohan Kapoor and Gadde Ruthvika Shivani, triumphing 25-27, 21-16, 21-14 to advance further in the draw.
