Two of Malaysia’s six representatives delivered commanding performances to secure their spots in the semi-finals of the prestigious 2025 China Open.
After mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei and women’s pair Go Pei Kee-Teoh Mei Xing fell to their respective opponents, it was up to Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah to keep Malaysia’s hopes alive — and they did so in style.
Set to officially rise to World No. 2 next week, Pearly and Thinaah put on a powerful display to defeat Japan’s experienced duo, Yuki Fukushima and Mayu Matsumoto, in straight sets, 21-16, 21-12. The result extends the Malaysian pair’s head-to-head advantage to 4-1 over the Japanese team.
Men’s doubles aces Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik joined them in the last four after outclassing fellow Malaysians Man Wei Chong and Tee Kai Wun in a controlled 21-16, 21-16 victory.
Up next, Pearly and Thinaah face a stern challenge against China’s Jia Yi Fan and Zhang Shu Xian — a pair they have lost to in their last three encounters.
Meanwhile, Chia and Soh must prepare for a high-stakes clash against India’s world-class duo, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, who advanced by eliminating Malaysia’s Ong Yew Sin and Teo Ee Yi.
