In one of the most dramatic and emotionally charged British Grands Prix in recent memory, Lando Norris delivered a dream victory at Silverstone, conquering treacherous wet-to-dry conditions and fierce rivals to claim his first-ever home win. Behind him, Oscar Piastri completed a stunning McLaren 1-2, while Nico Hulkenberg pulled off one of the sport’s greatest comeback stories by charging from P19 on the grid to snatch his maiden Formula 1 podium on his 239th Grand Prix start.
The race began under cloudy skies with Max Verstappen leading from pole, but quickly turned chaotic as rain swept across the circuit. Piastri overtook Verstappen early, showing blistering pace before being handed a 10-second penalty for slowing too much behind the Safety Car.
As the track transitioned back to dry conditions, McLaren perfectly executed their pit strategy, allowing Norris to take control once Piastri served his penalty. With composure and blistering pace, the British star held firm, crossing the line 6.812 seconds ahead of his teammate to secure his eighth career F1 win, but none more special than this.
“To win at home… there’s just no feeling like it,” beamed Norris, cheered on by a sea of Union Jacks. “The team gave me everything today. This one is for the fans.”
While the McLaren duo dominated the front, it was Nico Hulkenberg who stole hearts. Starting from 19th after a difficult qualifying, the Kick Sauber driver delivered the performance of a lifetime. Surviving multiple Safety Car restarts, rapidly changing grip levels, and late pressure from Lewis Hamilton, the 36-year-old German finally stepped onto an F1 podium after more than a decade of trying.
“It’s emotional. I’ve waited my entire career for this,” said a visibly moved Hulkenberg. “We never stopped believing.”
The 52-lap contest saw five retirements, a multitude of tyre gambles, and critical errors—including a spin by Verstappen that dropped him from contention. Hamilton, in his first home race as a Ferrari driver, finished fourth, while Verstappen recovered to fifth after an off-track moment under wet conditions.
Pierre Gasly produced a stellar drive for Alpine to take sixth, overtaking Lance Stroll on the final lap. Alex Albon, Fernando Alonso, and George Russell rounded out the top ten, with Bearman narrowly missing points in 11th at his home race.
