Bayern Munich continued their preparations for the new Bundesliga season in winning fashion after defeating Aston Villa 2-1 in the friendly match AUDI Football Summit 2026 at Kai Tak Sports Park .
The German champions overcame a late fightback from Villa to close out their Audi Football Summit appearance with another encouraging result as they build momentum ahead of the new campaign.
Bayern made the perfect start when they were awarded a free-kick in the 37th minute. Tom Bischof delivered an inviting ball into the area, where Kim Min-jae rose highest to head home and give Bayern a 1-0 lead before half-time.
The goal capped a strong first-half display from Vincent Kompany’s side, who controlled possession and limited Villa’s opportunities in the opening period.
Bayern continued to press for a second goal after the restart and were rewarded in the 73rd minute.
Luis Díaz burst into the penalty area from the left before cutting inside and firing a powerful right-footed effort past the Villa goalkeeper.
The Colombian’s strike put Bayern firmly in control at 2-0.
However, Aston Villa refused to surrender. Just 10 minutes later, Boubacar Kamara attracted defenders on the right before finding João Gomes outside the penalty area.
The Brazilian took a touch to set himself before unleashing a powerful shot into the net, reducing the deficit to 2-1 and giving Villa hope of completing a comeback.
Bayern, however, held firm during the closing stages to secure the victory.
The result marks a significant improvement from Bayern’s opening pre-season fixture, when they suffered a 1-2 defeat to Wehen Wiesbaden.
They responded emphatically by demolishing Rot-Weiß Erfurt 15-0, before recording a 2-1 victory over South Korean side Jeju SK United.
The victory over Aston Villa now gives Bayern three straight wins following their opening defeat.
Their overall pre-season record stands at three wins and one defeat from the four matches highlighted in their current preparation schedule.
For Aston Villa, the narrow defeat brought their pre-season campaign to a close with a 3-3 record.
Despite falling behind by two goals, Unai Emery’s side showed character to pull one back through João Gomes and put Bayern under pressure during the final stages.
The match at Kai Tak Sports Park also provided another valuable test against top-level European opposition as Villa continue preparations for the upcoming season.
