Nurul Azreena Mohd Fazil, the last Malaysia women’s archer ended at round 1/32 Elimination in the Women’s Individual event in Archery of Olympic 2024 at Le Invalides, Paris.
The action at Invalides, which was postponed overnight due to bad weather, saw Nurul Azreena lose 0-6 to Turkish archer Elif Berra Gokkir. The 20-year-old started the first set losing 27-29 points before being outscored in the next sets, 22-27 and 25-27.
Meanwhile, the coach and Technical Director of the country’s archery squad, Lee Jae Hyung, admitted that the achievements of the country’s archers are still far from the world’s best, highlighting a lack of preparation for such a significant event.
According to him, Malaysian archers need to improve in all aspects such as skill, practice, and experience in tournaments.
“After this, we need to prepare our athletes to face the Thailand SEA Games next year. From there, we need to improve our performance to reach the Asian and Olympic stages,” said the coach from South Korea, who is fluent in Malay.
