Jorge Martin has been officially declared unfit for Sunday's Red Bull Grand Prix of Australia after suffering a heavy crash during Saturday's Tissot Sprint at Phillip Island

The Aprilia Racing rider went down on the eighth lap while engaged in a fierce battle with Marc Marquez (Ducati Lenovo Team) for both the race lead and the championship advantage, bringing his afternoon to a dramatic end at the high-speed Turn 8

Following the incident, the Spaniard was immediately transported to the circuit medical centre for checks. X-rays revealed a fracture of the radius and a suspected fracture of the ulna at the distal end, confirming a break in one forearm bone near the wrist alongside a suspected fracture in the second

"Following an eighth lap crash at Turn 8 during the Tissot Sprint, Jorge Martin has been declared unfit for Sunday’s Australian Grand Prix at Phillip Island," MotoGP race direction confirmed in a medical update.

Martin will undergo further examinations and a CT scan in Melbourne to reach a definitive assessment of his injury and determine the next steps for his recovery

His absence from Sunday's main race marks a major turning point in the championship fight, as Marquez's Sprint victory pushed the Ducati rider 10 points clear at the top of the standings
