Qatar national team confirms a spot in the round of 16 after beating Tajikistan national team, scoring 1-0 in the AFC Asian Cup 2023 Group Stage, Group A at Al Bayt Stadium.
In this match, in the beginning game, Qatar had an advantage as the host opened to attack Tajikistan and got more opportunities.
In the 17th minute, following a fast break of Qatar and Almoez Ali with a through ball to Akram Afif shot into the goal, Qatar led 1-0.
Tajikistan almost got an equaliser goal in the 45+3rd minute following Akhtam Nazarov passing the ball to Parvizdzhon Umarbayev. Meshaal Basham, Qatar’s goalkeeper, saved the shot from outside the box.
In the remaining time of the first half, there was no additional score, ending the first half with Qatar leading 1-0.
In the second half, Tajikistan had a side attack against Qatar and got more chances from a set-piece.
But in the 81st minute, Tajikistan remained 10 players because Amadoni Kamolov conceded a foul to Ahmed Al Ganehi, and the referee showed a yellow card first before checking VAR and decided to cancel the Yellow card and change it to a direct red card to send off.
The remaining time of the second half had no additional score, ending Qatar winning 1-0 and confirming advancing to the round of 16 as champions of Group A.
