Korea Republic national team clinched a spot in the Quarter-Final after beating Saudi Arabia national team in the penalty shoot-out, scoring 4-2 after tied in 120 minutes 1-1 in the AFC Asian Cup 2023 Round of 16 at Education City Stadium.
In this game, the Korean Republic is the side that was open to attacking Saudi Arabia and got the opportunity but couldn’t convert it into a goal.
In the remaining time of the first half, there was no additional score, ending the first half both tied 0-0.
In the second half, just 38 seconds after the whistle started, Saudi Arabia opened a fast break. Salem Al Dawsari passed Abdullah Radif’s shot to the first post; Saudi Arabia led 1-0.
Korea Republic almost got the equalizer goal in the 86th minute following a heavy attack of the Korean Republic and Son Heung-Min’s shot in the last action, but Ahmad Al Kassar, goalkeeper of Saudi Arabia, saved it.
In the stoppage time, in the 90+2 minute, Korea Republic almost got an equalizer goal following the header of Cho Gue-Sung but hit the bar.
But in the 90+9 minute, following an attack of Korea and Seol Young-Woo’s header pass back to Cho Gue-Sung’s header in a very close range, Korea Republic equalizer 1-1.
The remaining time had no additional score, ending both tied 1-1 and continued playing in the extra time.
In the extra time, both sides had opportunities to goal but no additional score, ending both tied 1-1 and continuing to penalty shoot-out to find a winner.
In the penalty shoot-out, Korea Republic shot to the goal with all 4 players, and Saudi Arabia had 2 players miss a shot. Korea Republic won 4-2 in the PSO and passed to the Quarter-Final.
In the Quarter-Final, Korea Republic will face Australia.
