Former men's singles world number one Lee Zii Jia successfully navigated the qualifying round to secure his place in the round of 32 at the Arctic Open 2026, a BWF World Tour Super 500 event, continuing his push to rebuild momentum on the international circuit.

The 28-year-old progressed with a commanding performance, defeating home favourite Kalle Koljonen in straight games 21-12, 21-15 in just 33 minutes at Energia Areena in Vantaa, Finland, showcasing the kind of dominant display that once established him among the sport's elite.

The victory sets up a compelling second-round encounter against China's Dong Tian Yao, currently ranked 40th in the world — a fixture that carries extra significance given the pair's recent history on the circuit.

Notably, Tian Yao is the very same player who defeated Zii Jia 21-18, 21-14 in the qualifying quarterfinals, a result that denied the Kedah-born shuttler a place in the main draw of the Orleans Masters 2026.
