Malaysia’s top men’s doubles pair, Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik, finished as runners-up at the prestigious All England Open Badminton Championships 2026 after a dramatic three-game final against South Korea’s formidable duo Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae on Sunday.
The Malaysian pair pushed the top-seeded Koreans to the limit before falling 21–18, 12–21, 19–21 in an intense battle that showcased world-class doubles badminton at its finest.
Chia and Soh began the match confidently, controlling the tempo with aggressive net play and powerful smashes. Their sharp coordination allowed them to edge the opening game 21–18, putting early pressure on the Korean pair.
The Malaysians’ fast interceptions and tactical placements kept the rallies short, forcing errors from Kim and Seo and giving Malaysia the early advantage.
However, the momentum shifted in the second game. Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae responded with relentless pace and tighter defense, neutralizing Malaysia’s attacking threats. The Korean duo dominated the mid-court exchanges and surged to a convincing 21–12 win to level the match.
Their improved rotation and quick counterattacks began to disrupt the Malaysian rhythm heading into the decisive third game.
The final game delivered a thrilling showdown as both pairs traded leads in a high-intensity contest. Chia and Soh stayed within touching distance, showing resilience and determination.
But in the closing stages, Kim and Seo held their nerve. A series of precise attacking shots and defensive recoveries allowed the Korean pair to seal the match 21–19, claiming the title at one of badminton’s most historic tournaments.
It’s been 19 long years since Malaysia stood on the top of the podium in the men’s doubles category. Last time was 2007. That was the last time the legendary Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong brought the title back to Kuala Lumpur. And the Malaysian Men’s Double needs to continue waiting for success in this tournament.
